I like said, because I don’t really pay attention to that kind of things, I also believe in showing instead of telling, your writing should speak. You could use body language instead of big words to describe how a person said something. 

Some people say that said gets repetitive and boring but that’s not really true. I like using big words, but I also like keeping it simple and using said. People use big words to seem higher, and up to par with great writers, but I can assure you that most of the books you read repetitively use said. 

As for other people I’m not too sure depends on the person. If you’re writing and want to be safe use said, but also ad some other things but keep it simple ex shouted, commented things such as that. 

I have a couple of times, It’s not as hard as it seems. It seems pretty difficult and it can be a bumpy start, I say write a couple paragraphs about anything in the characters perspective just to get the feeling of writing him. How he thinks, how he reacts to things. What I like to do is place the guy in a situation and see how I would react to it and do the exact opposite. - Avry
